Lavender Fest

The 2007 Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival will be held July 7 and 8 at LeClerc Lavender Farm, 13401 LeClerc Road North, a large commercial lavender farm on the east bank of the Pend Oreille River.

The Festival provides a unique opportunity for commerce between up and coming regional artists, artisans and boutique farmers and their burgeoning community and tourist market. But this is commerce with a difference. The venue is relaxed, fragrant and sunny; there are many opportunities to learn about spinning, weaving, blacksmithing, lavender distillation, plant propagation, local history and tying flies and other regional crafts. There are opportunities to be entertained by wandering musicians, Hungarian Folk dancers, and to watch the Lavender Festival artist for 2008, Gloria de los Santos, develop her rendition of the event. Children's activities include face painting, painting flowerpots, and making a wishing tree, ribbon chokers and lavender sachet boxes. There is a photographer available to capture candid images; there are lavender cookies and lemonade and plenty of other great foods, coffee, tea and refreshing beverages.

The Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival is a Washington State nonprofit corporation staffed and run entirely by volunteers. Last year we had nearly 2000 visitors and are anticipating 3000 this year. Parking is free, advance tickets are $5 (available through an online purchase form), tickets at the gate are $7 and children under 12 have free admission. The Festival is located roughly one hour's drive north of Spokane or Coeur d'Alene, west of Sandpoint and south of Metaline Falls.

The North Columbia Monthly provides news, views, humor and a calendar of events for an area that stretches from Nelson in British Columbia south to Spokane in Washington State and covers all points in between. A free (and free-thinking, progressive) magazine, The Monthly is available at several hundred spots throughout the region and now is also available on-line at www.ncmonthly.com. Published once a month since 1994, The Monthly is an independent magazine that often challenges contemporary wisdom by encouraging critical thinking about issues and attitudes in the region and beyond.

Featuring our one-of-a-kind "What's Happening" department, The Monthly provides the region's only all-inclusive, free listing of community events and is the first place many people check to find out about area arts, crafts, music, fairs, services and events of all kinds. Our free listing policy for the "What's Happening" department promotes diversity, cultural interaction, and the exchange of ideas and free expression. Also featured in the magazine are people, food, health, humor, and feature articles that keep readers coming back for more each month.

We can be reached by mail at The North Columbia Monthly, PO Box 541, Colville, WA 99114; by phone or fax at 509-684-3109; by email at editor@ncmonthly.com; and on the Web at www.ncmonthly.com.
