Summer Fest 2007

Time again to come together at the Old Schoolhouse in Loon Lake and celebrate our wonderful community. For the thirteenth year, the Loon Lake Historical Society has worked very hard to give you a fun-filled weekend with lots of things to do.

The festival starts on Friday evening, August 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. with a wine tasting and silent auction. Tickets will be $7.50 each and are available in advance or at the door. You must be 21 years old to attend the Friday night event.

Due to our generous donors and industrious volunteers there is a much larger collection of items to bid on in this year's auction. Come see the Loon mirror, bookends, mailbox bank, stained glass and a 1984 Ron Nixon sculpture to mention a few of the lovely things that have been donated. Tim Plat and possibly Warren Swenson will provide guitar and piano music for the evening.

Come, eat, drink and generously support your Loon Lake Historical Society, bid higher than your neighbor and go home happy. The wine for this year is from the Latah Creek Winery. The varieties are Merlot and Huckleberry D'Loon. We also have a limited amount of last year's wines that will be available. The 2007 wine label has been beautifully done by artist Toni McLarren Johnson.

Activities on Saturday, Aug. 4th run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will again have the craft fair by the Old Schoolhouse, an Art Show and a Food Booth. The Historical Society sponsors the craft fair. There will be several of the crafters from previous years as well as many new ones.

Historical displays featuring local history will be in the history room. The quilt raffle will conclude at Summer Fest. Remember to buy your raffle tickets soon, as the drawing will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 5th. You need not be present to win. And you do want to win don't you? Have you seen that lovely red and gold Triple Irish Chain quilt? It will be on display. The annual Pancake Breakfast will be Sunday Aug.5th only from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Loon Lake Property Owners Association will sponsor it. This year an Open Old Car Show will be on display from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday only, between the Old School and the Loon Lake Elementary School. A People's Choice award will be given at 2 p.m.

Please make plans to come and join the fun. All the proceeds from the auction and wine sales help support the Loon Lake Historical Society with projects such as upkeep of the Old Schoolhouse. Many local events are held here during the year for the benefit of our community. The Schoolhouse is open year around on Tuesday evening from 6 -- 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For additional information contact the Loon Lake Historical Society at 233-2222.

The North Columbia Monthly provides news, views, humor and a calendar of events for an area that stretches from Nelson in British Columbia south to Spokane in Washington State and covers all points in between. A free (and free-thinking, progressive) magazine, The Monthly is available at several hundred spots throughout the region and now is also available on-line at www.ncmonthly.com. Published once a month since 1994, The Monthly is an independent magazine that often challenges contemporary wisdom by encouraging critical thinking about issues and attitudes in the region and beyond.

Featuring our one-of-a-kind "What's Happening" department, The Monthly provides the region's only all-inclusive, free listing of community events and is the first place many people check to find out about area arts, crafts, music, fairs, services and events of all kinds. Our free listing policy for the "What's Happening" department promotes diversity, cultural interaction, and the exchange of ideas and free expression. Also featured in the magazine are people, food, health, humor, and feature articles that keep readers coming back for more each month.
