Art Around Town
by Gloria J. Geary

Ballet by Chelsea Capperauld

Chelsea Capperauld of Pullman is displaying her small mixed-media collages at the Colville Chamber of Commerce offices and at Talk-N-Coffee, next door to the Chamber office at 121 East Astor. Stop by to see these witty, mixed media artworks.

Her artwork is reasonably priced, from $55 to $70, and are encased in Plexiglas. On her website, she explains her artwork this way, "I've been a collector of other peoples' memories for about fifteen years now. I've found myself digging through musty boxes, harvesting from estate sales, and plucking from the streets a considerable amount of experiences that aren't directly my own. It's from these found objects, and the people who once owned them that I derive my inspiration." For more information, see her website at www.chelseamargaret.com or email her at cmonster0826@gmail.com.

Her work will be on display until the August 31. The Chamber office is open from 9 to 4 p.m., closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m., and Talk-N-Coffee is open from 7 am to 4.30 pm, Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday.

Artwork is needed for City Hall offices at 170 S. Oak Street, and Colville Chamber of Commerce office and other venues in and around Colville, WA. This is a great opportunity for artists and craftspeople to display their work. Art Around Town is sponsored by Colville Arts Foundation, a local not-for-profit public organization. No commission is taken for any works sold. Publicity provided. Shows run for six to eight weeks.

If you are interested in exhibiting your original 2D or 3D artwork (ready to hang) please call Gloria at 509-684-3002 for more information or see the web site, www.colvilleartsfoundation.org, or email colvillearts@hughes.net.

The North Columbia Monthly provides news, views, humor and a calendar of events for an area that stretches from Nelson in British Columbia south to Spokane in Washington State and covers all points in between. A free (and free-thinking, progressive) magazine, The Monthly is available at several hundred spots throughout the region and now is also available on-line at www.ncmonthly.com. Published once a month since 1994, The Monthly is an independent magazine that often challenges contemporary wisdom by encouraging critical thinking about issues and attitudes in the region and beyond.

Featuring our one-of-a-kind "What's Happening" department, The Monthly provides the region's only all-inclusive, free listing of community events and is the first place many people check to find out about area arts, crafts, music, fairs, services and events of all kinds. Our free listing policy for the "What's Happening" department promotes diversity, cultural interaction, and the exchange of ideas and free expression. Also featured in the magazine are people, food, health, humor, and feature articles that keep readers coming back for more each month.

We can be reached by mail at The North Columbia Monthly, PO Box 541, Colville, WA 99114; by phone or fax at 509-684-3109; by email at editor@ncmonthly.com; and on the Web at www.ncmonthly.com.
