Intro An Invitation to Writers Fundraising Return to The North Columbia Monthly |
Headwaters Journal Makes a Comeback
Headwaters Journal: Voices of the Columbia, a literary magazine, made its on-line debut September 2006. In resurrecting a literary journal that we published occasionally in the 1990s, this on-line publication will continue The Monthly's efforts to highlight the work of the many fine writers of the Columbia River region. Therefore, we joyfully invite writers of all interests to contribute their work to Headwaters Journal, a monthly literary magazine that provides a forum for those who live in the region, or who have a connection to this place. Our History: Inspired by the annual poetry readings that were sponsored by the Colville chapter of the American Association of University Women, a group of friends published Headwaters Journal periodically through the 1990s. Its purpose was to collect in print the contributions of those who read their fine work at the poetry readings, and to invite other writers to participate as well. As is often the case with literary publications, Headwaters was a financial fiasco, which we discontinued in order to save the publishers from penury. As a literary publication, it was an unqualified success, as our readers would often remind us. Writers appreciated having a place to publish their work and found Headwaters Journal to be a positive and nurturing literary environment. Supporters of regional culture liked the contribution that our writers made to everything that is rich and worthwhile in the area. Those positive values are what we hope to continue in this new incarnation of Headwaters Journal. An Invitation to Writers: We are currently accepting submissions for upcoming issues.
