On the 4th of July there will be a Curlew School Reunion including the
classes of 1928 through 1970. Lots of fun activities are planned. A
school tour is scheduled for 4:00 to 5:30. A dinner will be served at
the Curlew Civic hall at 6. Cost is $8.00. On July 5th we'll meet at
noon at Tom & Louise McKay's on Boulder Creek Road, Curlew for a
potluck picnic. From 4 to midnight the Malo Grange Hall will be open.
Schoolmates are encouraged to bring watermelons and come to visit. Sunday
the Ansorge Hotel Museum and Husky Car and Truck Museum will be open

33rd Annual Chewelah Chataqua, July 10, 11, 12 & 13, featuring arts

Colville Arts Foundation announces the Colville Art Walk, which is scheduled
for July 28 through August 1. Saundra’s Furniture is leading the
way in creating more art venues to display local artists’ work
in shops and businesses on Main Street. Saundra’s Furniture is
co-sponsor of the event. Local artists are invited to display their
works during the week of July 28 – August 1. Businesses along
Main Street in Colville will display the artwork in a prominent place
in their space, artists will receive publicity about their work, and
no commissions will be taken for any works sold. The event is free and

The Artists’ Studio Tour of North Idaho is a collection of over
30 artists who open their studios for demonstrations, questions, sales
and general enjoyment. What makes this tour unique is not only the outstanding

Back by popular demand! The Libraries of Stevens County are sponsoring
the third annual Brown Bag Lunch & Lecture Series at the Colville
Public Library. Bring your lunch to the library every Tuesday in July
from 12 noon – 1:00 pm to learn a new and exciting topic from
area experts. The free lectures are open to all ages, but are prepared

Genealogy Meeting - With the price of everything going up, now is a
great time to learn how to do genealogy on a next to nothing budget.
The July 9th genealogy computer class will cover “Free Stuff Online”
with NeWGS Web-Master, Susan Dechant. The class starts at 10:30 in the
Colville Library Basement and is co-sponsored by SCRLD and the Colville
Public Library. The afternoon program on July 9th starts at 1:30 in
the basement meeting room of the LDS Church (260 E. Juniper). The guest
speaker will be Miriam Midkiff talking on “Frugal Genealogy.”
Both programs are free and open to all those researching their family
history.
The Colville Library display case will be holding the prizes and information
about the summer reading program during June and July. The reading program
is for children and adults so head for the library, sign up for the
program, report to the librarians how many books you are reading and
for every five books you read your name goes into a drawing to win one
of the great gift baskets. Let's read this summer!
The Colville Library Book Group meets every second Thursday of the month
at 1:00 p.m., in the meeting room of the Colville Library, 195 S. Oak,

The Kettle Falls Public Library Book Group meets on the second Monday

The Book Bank at Rural Resources Community Action, Adult Literacy Program

Citizens for a Clean Columbia advocate for a clean river ecosystem.
We are looking for new members. Our general membership meetings are

Sherman Mountain Loop Hike--20 Years After the White Mountain Fire.
What is there to see 20 years after the White Mountain Fire burned 20,000
acres on the Kettle River Mountain Range of the Colville National Forest?
Plenty. Come see for yourself with retired Forest Ecologist Jay Berube
on Saturday, July 19th. The five-mile roundtrip Sherman Loop Trail climbs
from Sherman Pass (5575 feet) and follows around Sherman Mountain between
5800 and 6500 feet in elevation. Treat yourself to brilliant displays
of blue lupine and red paintbrush, while passing through a mixed conifer
forest of subalpine fir, Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, and western larch.

Kettle Falls at 9a.m. to car-pool or at the trailhead parking area at
Sherman Pass on State Hwy 20 about 33 miles west of Colville at 9:45

free, guided day hike on July 19 through Clackamas Roadless Area in
the eastern Okanogan National Forest. Enjoy stately old-growth giants
and views of the distant Kettle Crest in this area rich with wildlife.

• Hike Abercrombie Mountain to Hooknose: July 26 join Conservation

• Grassy Top from Pass Creek Pass: On Aug. 2 join Conservation
Northwest for a free, moderate 8-mile hike in beautiful Hall Mountain

to rare wildlife such as grizzly, woodland caribou, lynx, and bull trout.

• Are you tired of poor quality or golf ball sized fruit. The
missing element may be thinning. Join Terry Swagerty, WSU Small Farm
Coordinator, to explore a skill that can add to the quality of your
home-grown fruit. Learn tips and tricks for thinning fruit. Two sessions
are scheduled for July 2, one from 3-4 pm followed by 5:30 -6:30 pm.

• The 4-H Fashion Revue will be held July 7 at WSU Stevens County

model both home sewn garments and outfits put together as part of the

• WSU Master Gardeners are featuring the "Home Lawns"
publication for the month of July. Get your copy from the Master Gardener
Plant Clinic held at the NE WA Farmers Market on the corner of Astor
and Main in Colville from 9-11 am on Saturday mornings, July 12, 19,
and 26. Master Gardeners are available to answer gardening questions
and diagnose problems. Samples are welcome!
• Get your horses ready and bags packed for four days of horse
and camping fun! This year's 4-H Horse Camp is July 14-17 and includes
western games, beach time, trail rides, t-shirt painting, and more.
All Stevens County 4-H members in grades 3 through 12 are invited. Cost

• 4-H horse project members mark your calendars for the annual
Colville Light Horse Show on July 19 and 20 at the NE WA Fairgrounds.
This 4-H and Open Horse Show is a 4-H State Qualifying event for English

• A 4-H Small Animal State Qualifying Show will be held July 20

• Pressure Canner Testing. Dial gauge pressure canners should
be tested yearly before you start canning. Bring your canner lid to
the WSU Food Safety table at the Colville Farmer's Market on the corner
of 3rd and Oak in Colville, July 23, from 12 to 3 pm or at WSU Stevens
County Extension July 30 from 10 am to 1 pm for free testing.
• 4-H members with dog or cat projects are invited to attend State
Qualifying Dog and Cat Judging Contests July 31, from 6-8 pm at the

on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. We frequently meet at local gardens
during the summer months, gather for seed and plant exchanges in the

children involved in dependency cases with CPS. Advocates help children
in the custody of the state from "slipping through the cracks"

16. The Compassionate Friends is a national mutual assistance self-help
organization offering support, understanding, and hope to families who
have experienced the death of a child. It aids them in positive resolution
of the grief experience and fosters their physical and emotional health.
